As at 1 January 2012 the stamp duty exemption for first home buyers of a second hand home has been abolished. It should be noted that such exemptions are still available for those purchasing vacant land with the intention of building their first home and intend to use it as their principal place of residence.
There are also certain exemptions available for purchasers looking to purchase vacant land or new build residential premises. These exemptions are not restricted to first home buyers.
Eligibility criteria will need to be met for all exemptions.
